Back home

Villarrica, the place where I use to live, is a nice touristic place. So I don’t need to travel for my vacations. My home it is going to be always my favorite vacation´s place. After that terrible semester I only think in Villarrica. The nice weather, the lake, the mountains, my old friends, everything that I need for my vacations it is there.  Also my family live there and they are an additional reason for go to Villarrica as soon as possible.

Last week I have been planning all the activities that I´m going to do.  With some friends we are going to camp in the “laguna Ancapulli”. It is an amazing place, in the middle of the mountain, far of the civilization. I think that after a long time living in Santiago that is the place that I need. We are planning this activity for a week, because we need full organization. We need transport, camp tends, a lot of food and appropriate clothes for the cold nights. Villarrica is near to the Cordillera de los Andes, so even we are in summer, the nights are very cold.

Another thing that I´m planning for these vacations is to play again with my rock band.  All the members are studying in different places, so vacations it is the only time at the year, where we can play and remember all good times when we use to be a band.

My parents are planning activities too. They don’t see me long time ago, so they want that I stay a few days at home so they can spend time with me. Obviously, I want to see them too.

Green planet

I think that to take care about the environment of our planet is very important. At this moment our planet is in danger. The global warming, for example, is a problem that it is afeccting us every day.  Moreover, the global warming doesn´t afeccts only human being, it is afeccting all animals, plants and living oraganisms on the planet. If we don´t take care about this problem now , after it will be too late.

Probably the place were people learn more about green practices is they own home. I think that family education is very important, because in Chile green practices are not very popular. In schools we don´t learn so much about take care the environment or green practices, so I think that it is a problem that government should solve. In general, chilean society don´t have a green culture compared with other countries.

Since I live in ñuñoa, I begin to incorporate recycling parctices. Ñuñoa has a recycling system where you can throw your trash in  a lot of bigs containers specially made for recyclabel waste. You can throw there almost every kind of waste, except the organic waste. I think that fact, it is a “city problem”. If you live in the city is very dificult to recycle organic waste. In my villarrica´s house we recycle all organic waste. We have a big backyard where we have made a hole in the ground. In that hole we throw all organic waste.

Another way to contribute to the care of the environment is to use the bicycle. I go to the University  all days by my bicycle. I think that is an easy green practice and also sometimes it is quickier than a bus and you can save a lot of money.

Jimi Hendrix, the legend

Today I want to talk about a man who I admire. His name is Jimi Hendrix and he is considered a legend in the history of rock music. Jimi Hendrix was, for a lot of people, the best rock guitarist at world and one of the most influential musicians. I think that no one has played the guitar like Hendrix. His style was definetly innotive and original, he create a new style of music and a new stlye of playing guitar. Hendrix was inlfuenced by blues artis such as BB King, Muddy Waters  and the jazz guitarrist Wes Montgomery.

His first succes was with his group “The Jimi Hendrix Experience”. They music was apprecaited at first time in the UK. After this initial succes he and his band become famous in USA. Jimi Hendrix´s most important performance was in 1969 at Woodstock Festival. People gone crazy when they saw Jimi Hendrix at the stage and his performance was considered epic.

Jimi Hendrix is widely known too, for using psychedelic drugs like LSD. Many musicians of that time have used all kinds of drugs. People say that the use of psychedelic drugs is reflected in the style music of Hendrix, and that may be the reason of his special style. It is a shame that the abuse of drugs was the reason  of the early dead of Hendrix. He died when he was only 27 years old and after that he became in a legend.

What to do with a degree in anthropology?

Hi, today I´m going to talk about an article that I have read at The Guardian. The article talks about of what you can do with a degree.

A lot of people think that an anthropologist is the person who lives with indigenous people all over the world to study their cultures. However, most graduates go on to careers that differ a lot from this stereotype. Anthropology is a very broad subject and there is not only one profession for anthropologist students. Graduates enter to a variety of professions and their employability will increase as the world becomes more globalized.

An American anthropologist Margaret Mead said that a small group of smart people have the power to change the world, as an anthropologist you could be part of these group of people.

Anthropology is a very peculiar science. It has been described as the most scientific of the humanities and the most humanistic of the sciences. Course contents can be different and they depend of the biological or social focus that has the university. However, you will be equipped with a set of analytical skills that you may be applied to many different jobs.

Social and market research, government and international development are interested in the knowledge of an anthropologist. Also graduates could work in the civil service, conservation and heritage management.
